Also known in the USA as the “Milano”, the Alfa Romeo 75 is one of the most underrated sports sedans of the 1980s and 90s, as it sports Italian spirit, racing-style handling and, in this case, a limited production number (890/1000). As part of the AlfaRomeo Serie Numerata (or ASN), this powerful yet exclusive turbocharged version of the 75 has 147k km and is a niche model that is really sought-after by Alfisti, after the 75 Evoluzione and the 75 3.0-litre “Busso” V6.
At the end of its life, during June 1991, Alfa Romeo decided to give honour to its 75 model by putting on sale a special version in limited quantities: 3’500 hosting a 2-litre, “Twin Spark” inline-four engine and 1’000 sporting a 1.8-litre, turbo-charged, in-line four. They were later called A.S.N. (Numbered Sport set-up) and fitted Recaro seats, leather steering wheel and gear knob, matching mirrors, special alloy wheels and other minor (but nevertheless special) details, including the special series plate on the dashboard.
Being number 890 out of 1000 produced with this engine, this Alfa Romeo 75 highlights a Black (Nero 601) paintwork, which is reported in good condition, as the desired period-correct Rome plate, since it was rejuvenated right after its purchase in 2016. The seller states that the car is pictured on 4 homologated 17-inch alloy wheels but will be sold with its stock (and refurbished) 14-inch alloy wheels; the seller also points out that the car has received a 15, 16 and 17-inch-wheels approval on its registration book. Continental tyres are reported in running condition.
Moving inside, the cabin is in good order, as the two-tone cloth covering the seats was recently restored by the seller; the front pair are bolstered Recaro.
Amenities include power windows, black and red custom Alfa Romeo carpets, air conditioning and a fancy, aircraft-style red button, while the wear is slightly visible on the sides of both seats and the carpets.
The leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel frames a six gauge cockpit, with a 260-km/h speedometer flanked by a 7’000 RPM tachometer and ancillary gauges. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads just under 147’000 km.
Mechanically, the seller reports that during 2014 the car underwent a complete engine overhaul, and that it received a matching Ford Sierra Cosworth’s turbo-charger fit, while being driven for barely 25’000 km so far.
This Alfa Romeo also features an increased air filter, a new turbocharger and a custom stainless steel exhaust pipe, all paired with a brilliant 5-speed manual gearbox. All the proving documentation is reported to be included in the purchase at the time of delivery. Regardless of these betterments, the car can allegedly be sold with its stock parts.
Firstly registered in Italy in 1991, this 75 was purchased by its current owner in 2016 and is now offered for auction with its spare stock parts, the car’s full documentation (user, instruction and service books) and the original pair of keys.
